Overview
New Mexico businesses can save money, earn rebates and improve lighting quality with our Lighting Efficiency rebates.
We offer rebates on a wide variety of lighting projects and applications including retrofits of existing systems, reductions in the number of lamps (delamping), upgrades as part of a renovation, installations in a new building, small business lighting projects and custom applications.

- Lower up-front costs and shorten your payback period, typically three years or less, with our rebates.
- Improve the lighting quality in your facility.
Details
Choose from four ways to lower your lighting costs and earn rebates:
- Lighting retrofit rebates – Available for existing facilities of any size, our one-to-one retrofit rebates help offset the cost of installing new lighting that’s more efficient than your current lighting.
- New construction lighting rebates – Available for new facilities or those going through major renovations, we reward you for choosing lighting options that are more efficient than standard options.
- Custom Efficiency lighting rebates – Custom Efficiency lighting rebates are available for energy-saving lighting projects not currently included in our prescriptive rebate program. Requires preapproval before equipment purchase and installation. See our Custom Efficiency page for more information.
- Small Business Lighting – Available for existing facilities with peak demand of 400 kW or less. Lighting consultant, Franklin Energy, will conduct a free lighting audit of your facility, recommend efficient lighting choices, and assist with rebate paperwork. We are now offering prescriptive rebates for LED Lighting including:
- ENERGY STAR®-qualified interior, screw-in or pin-based LED lamps—up to 20 watts
- ENERGY STAR-qualified interior LED luminaires/downlights—up to 50 watts
- Visit energystar.gov/sslpartners to find qualifying equipment
- Exterior LED canopy and soffit fixtures—25 to 150 watts1
- Refrigerated LED case lighting for doors of five and six feet1
1 ENERGY STAR qualification not required.
Other energy-saving LED lighting projects not listed above can still be evaluated through our Custom Efficiency program.
Who Qualifies
To qualify, you:
- Must be a business electric customer of Xcel Energy in New Mexico.
- Have an existing or new construction facility where you install qualified, energy-efficient lighting (see Qualifying Equipment for more details).
Qualifying Equipment
Qualified equipment and applications for prescriptive rebates include:
- High-efficiency fluorescent T8 fixtures—retrofits and lamp reduction (delamping)
- Fluorescent T5 retrofits
- Installing CFL lamps or fixtures
- High-bay fluorescent fixtures
- LED exit signs
- Occupancy sensors
- ENERGY STAR-qualified interior, screw-in or pin-based LED lamps—up to 20 watts
- ENERGY STAR-qualified interior LED luminaires/downlights—up to 50 watts

Rebate applications for 2012 T12 lighting upgrades due 4/1/2013
T12 lighting upgraded in 2012 may be eligible for a generous rebate. Qualifying equipment must have been installed on or before 12/31/2012; applications must be submitted within 12 months of the invoice date or no later than 4/1/2013, whichever comes first.
As of 2013, we are no longer offering 2012-level prescriptive rebates for T12 retrofits.
Custom T12 projects preapproved prior to 12/31/2012 have until 11/30/2013 to be installed, invoiced, and submitted. Projects requiring re-evaluation will use standard efficiency T8 as the baseline going forward, standard efficiency T8 fixture will be used as the baseline.
