Heating/ECM Rebates

Rebates on home heating for Minnesota customers

Overview

Heating and cooling your home typically accounts for 50% of your energy bill. A new natural gas heating system or a new natural gas furnace with a factory installed Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM) can help you save energy and money. Our 2013 heating/ECM rebate program is designed to help offset your initial costs, and an efficient unit can offer energy savings throughout the life of the equipment.

Who Qualifies

Xcel Energy customers in Minnesota who receive our residential natural gas service for heating system rebates and electric service for ECM rebates.

How to Get Started

  1. Find a registered contractor.
  2. Purchase and install a new, qualifying furnace or boiler between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013.
  3. Download the rebate application or ask for one from your installing contractor.
  4. Complete and mail the application by July 31, 2014 (include your dated invoice). It takes about six weeks to receive a rebate check.

Additional Information

The installation property must be located in Minnesota and receive residential natural gas service for heating system rebates or electric service for ECM rebates. In addition, the customer must have an active billing account with Xcel Energy to qualify for the rebate.

Natural gas furnaces that do not have an ECM may still qualify for a rebate as long as it meets the required efficiency for a rebate.

To qualify for the ECM rebate, customers must be a Minnesota residential electric customer of Xcel Energy.  Customers who are not Xcel Energy natural gas customers may qualify for the ECM rebate, please use the Heating System Rebate form to apply for the ECM rebate.

Equipment eligibility is verified through the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). To be eligible for a rebate, equipment model numbers on the invoice and the rebate form must match exactly. Check with your contractor to ensure that your unit will qualify for a rebate.

Xcel Energy uses ahridirectory.org to verify all heating equipment. Equipment that does not match will not qualify for rebates.

ECM verification is conducted through manufacturer’s spec sheets or websites.

There is no limit to the number of heating system rebates you can receive. If you install two qualifying units, you may submit two forms.

Rebate forms for units installed between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013 must be submitted by July 31, 2014.

Rebates for new home construction should be negotiated between the builder and the home buyer to determine who receives the rebate.

Rebates may take up to six weeks to process after the application has been submitted. Rebate applications are processed individually; you will receive one check per application if approved. Please retain a copy of your paperwork.
