Why do our products and services differ based on state? Because our business is regulated by state. We have regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. The different regulatory body for each state we serve determines what products and services we deliver in that state.
If you will be stopping or transferring your Xcel Energy service soon, you may wonder how we calculate your final bill. Below is a complete look at your choices for obtaining a final meter reading when you discontinue your gas and electric service.
Typically, we will prorate your energy charges based on previous energy usage. This is a simple and effective way to determine your final bill and does not require any special action on your part.
You may call us at 1-800-895-4999 on your moving date and provide an actual meter reading, which we will use to calculate your final bill. (Learn how to read your meter here)
If for any reason you do not call us by 5 p.m. on the day of your move, we will assume that you would like us to estimate your final reading based on your previous energy usage.
You may call us at 1-800-895-4999 to request that an actual meter reading when you move out; however:
The reading will be taken within three business days of your moving date.
Only the customer or a spouse/roommate listed on the account may contact us regarding any of these meter-reading options.
