Colorado Innovative Clean Technology Program
Xcel Energy, with approval from the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, has established the Innovative Clean Technology (ICT) Program, an initiative to test promising new technologies with potential to lower greenhouse gas emissions and result in other environmental improvements. Through the ICT Program, we can pursue the development, commercialization and deployment of new power generation, energy storage and other technologies that support our clean energy strategy. It provides the opportunity to test these technologies and evaluate their cost, reliability and environmental performance at a demonstration scale before determining whether we should deploy them more widely for our customers.
Under the program, “innovative clean technologies” are defined as those that offer important energy-related, environmental and economic benefits, but are not yet widely deployed by the utility industry. We are constantly learning of, exploring and evaluating new emerging technologies. We can now present to the utilities commission for approval, small-scale demonstration projects of innovative technologies that appear the most viable and compatible with our operations and clean energy goals.
