Choose your state

Our products and services differ based on state. Please select your state (or the state you're interested in) from the list to the left.

Why do our products and services differ based on state? Because our business is regulated by state. We have regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. The different regulatory body for each state we serve determines what products and services we deliver in that state.

Recommissioning for Trade Partners - MN

Recommissioning for Trade Partners

Help customer identify ways to reduce facility operation costs and earn rebates

Overview

Help your Minnesota business customers find and solve mechanical system problems that can make facilities expensive to operate and earn rebates with our Recommissioning program.

The program covers both recommissioning and retrocommissioning projects. We offer rebates for a recommissioning study and for the actual implementation of measures identified from the study.

Trade Partner Benefits

  • We will pay you $2/1,000 kWh you identify within a study if you meet the minimum criteria that is outlined in the trade ally incentive request form
  • We will pay you $250 for fast track proposal projects that are approved

Customer Benefits

Studies show that typical recommissioning projects result in savings of 5-20% of total building energy costs with many having simple paybacks of less than one year.

For more information on our customer program, see the Recommissioning page.

Details

Rebates

  • The study rebate is up to 75% of the study cost, up to $25,000 for preapproved projects.
  • The implementation rebate for electricity customers is either up to $400/kilowatt (kW) or ”implied kW” saved, whichever is more lucrative for the customer. (Implied kW is the number of kWh divided by 8760, the average number of business hours in a year: Implied kW = kilowatt-hour (kWh) / 8760.)
  • Natural gas customers can earn up to $5 per dekatherm (Dth) saved.
  • Paybacks must be between 9 months and 15 years to qualify for a rebate.
  • Electric and/or natural gas rebates cover up to 60% of the cost of recommended improvements.

Tips and Tools

  • To help you calculate energy savings for recommissioning measures identified within a building, use our Recommissioning Calculator Tool. It currently contains 19 common recommissioning measures. To access the calculator tool, fill out our license agreement and submit it to us.
  • Our provider tips booklet will help you through each phase of the project, from preapproval application through project implementation.
  • Take a look at our sample study template to get an idea of what type of information you need to include in the recommissioning report. Feel free to use your own format.
  • In your study, you must provide calculations and show your work for measures not calculated using our tool.
  • Recommissioning providers: Sign up for our e-newsletter to get the latest news on program changes and promotions.
  • Once you perform a study in the Recommissioning program you will be added to our provider list on XcelEnergy.com. This list is updated quarterly. You do not need to be on the provider list to do a study.

How to Get Started

  1. If you have not performed a study through our program before, complete an Investigator Application and contact us to discuss your qualifications.
  2. Complete Addendum A and preapproval application. Make sure you attach your proposal to the preapproval application. The proposal should answer the following questions:
    • What type of building is it and what systems does the customer have now?
    • What are the customer’s concerns or issues?
    • What are some preliminary conservation opportunities?
    • What are the feasible alternatives and/or study tasks?
    • What is the study cost?
  3. Submit materials to your client’s Xcel Energy Account Manager.
  4. You will receive an email if the customer’s application is preapproved.
  5. See the Process Tip Sheet for summary of the process and the remaining steps. If you have any questions, contact your Trade Relations Manager or your customer’s Xcel Energy Account Manager.
