Michael L. Swenson

Michael (Mike) Swenson is president and CEO, Northern States Power Company-Wisconsin, an Xcel Energy Company, with responsibility for Wisconsin and Michigan operations.
Previously he served as state vice president for North Dakota and South Dakota, following the 2000 merger between New Century Energies and Northern States Power Co. (NSP) to form Xcel Energy.
From 1995 to 2000, Swenson was Gas Operations manager for NSP, first in St. Paul and later in North Dakota and South Dakota. He worked for Viking Gas Transmission Co. as a field operations manager from 1993 to 1995, following NSP's purchase of Viking Gas Transmission Co. from Tenneco. From 1980 to 1993, he held engineering and management positions with Tenneco Inc.
He serves on the boards of the United Way of Greater Eau Claire, Eau Claire Economic Development Corporation, Eau Claire City Center Corporation, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation, Gateway Industrial Park Corporation serving as president, and Stout Technology Park Development Corporation.
Swenson earned a degree in civil engineering from North Dakota State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Minnesota State University. He is a graduate of the Minnesota Management Institute at the Carlson School of Business, University of Minnesota.
