Why do our products and services differ based on state? Because our business is regulated by state. We have regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. The different regulatory body for each state we serve determines what products and services we deliver in that state.

Transmission lines and interstate pipelines are critical infrastructure
Xcel Energy is the fourth largest investor-owned transmission system with more than 18,100 miles of electric transmission lines and nearly 900 transmission and transmission/distribution substations in 10 states. Major control centers are in Minneapolis, Minn.; Golden, Colo.; Eau Claire, Wis.; and Amarillo, Texas.
In addition to our electric transmission system, we also operate an extensive natural gas transmission system in Colorado. In other states, where we distribute natural gas, we purchase it from major interstate providers.
