Edwards to Minturn Natural Gas Pipeline Replacement Project

Edwards to Minturn Natural Gas Pipeline Replacement Project

This project will ensure reliability to meet growing needs

Overview

In November 2011, Xcel Energy completed installing approximately eight miles of high-pressure natural gas 16-inch pipe along U.S. Highway 6 between Edwards and Minturn. We anticipate that this new pipe will ensure reliability and meet the natural gas needs for the growing Summit, Grand, Lake and Chaffee counties for many years to come.

Remaining Restoration

On Monday, May 14, a contractor for Xcel Energy will begin final road restoration work that could not be completed before the 2011-2012 winter season.

Permanent repairs will be made to sections of U.S. Highway 6 from the intersection of the Post Boulevard roundabout east to the U.S. Interstate 70/U.S. Forest Service parking lot. This work is expected to take two days.

In addition to the permanent repair of patches, crews also will place a two-inch overlay on the road through the primary Eagle-Vail Business District just west of the point where Highway 6 passes under Interstate 70. This work is expected to take less than a day.
