Location: Aurora, Colo.
Plant Description: Blue Spruce is a natural gas-fired, combined cycle generation plant. It has two operating units. The plant provides Colorado with environmentally responsible energy to help meet the need for electricity, while also providing needed diversification for the state's fuel mix.
Power Production Capability: 278 megawatts (MW): unit 1 – 139 MW and unit 2 – 139 MW.
Fuel Source: Natural gas and diesel fuel.
Blue Spruce is a relatively new plant. It went into service in April 2003 when it was owned by Calpine Corporation. Xcel Energy purchased the plant in 2010.
The plant uses General Electric 7FA turbines and can use two fuel sources.
Blue Spruce delivers efficient, low-impact, environmentally-friendly power for peak demand. The plant’s turbine design and advanced emissions control technology reduces nitrogen oxide emissions when compared to older plants.
Our products and services differ based on state. Please select your state (or the state you're interested in) from the list to the left.
Why do our products and services differ based on state? Because our business is regulated by state. We have regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. The different regulatory body for each state we serve determines what products and services we deliver in that state.
