Tim O’Connor is senior vice president and chief nuclear officer for Xcel Energy. He is responsible for all Xcel Energy nuclear activities in Minnesota at the Monticello and Prairie Island nuclear generating plants (operated by NSP-Minnesota and its parent company, Xcel Energy).
O’Connor joined Xcel Energy in 2007 as site vice president at the Monticello plant. In June 2012 he was appointed vice president of engineering and nuclear regulatory compliance and licensing.
He has 30 years of commercial nuclear experience with both boiling and pressurized water reactors. His increasing responsibilities throughout his career have included site vice president at Constellation Energy Group’s Nine Mile Point station in New York; vice presidential roles at the Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) Hope Creek and Salem plants; plant manager at LaSalle station; and operations manager at Dresden and Zion plants. He has also worked in management positions in maintenance, operations, and engineering. O’Connor also held a position with the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) as an evaluation team manager on a reverse loaned assignment.
O’Connor received his mechanical engineering degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee.
