Xcel Energy names Eves to head Public Service Co. of Colorado

2009-11-09 22:00:00.0

DENVER – Xcel Energy (NYSE:XEL) today announced that David L. Eves, president and CEO, Southwestern Public Service Company (SPS), an Xcel Energy company based in Amarillo, Texas, will become president and chief operating officer of Public Service Company of Colorado (PSCo), an Xcel Energy company based in Denver, effective Nov. 15.

Eves will replace Tim Taylor, president and CEO of PSCo, who is retiring Dec. 31. Taylor will continue as CEO until his retirement, at which time Eves will assume the CEO title.

Eves has been CEO of SPS since 2006 and also served as an SPS director.  Prior to moving to Amarillo, he was Xcel Energy’s vice president of resource planning and acquisition based in Denver, where his primary duties included long-term resource planning and competitive acquisition of generation resources. Eves also has overseen purchased power, wholesale marketing, energy trading and resource planning for Xcel Energy.  He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University.

Xcel Energy also announced that Riley Hill, chief operating officer of SPS, will succeed Eves as president and CEO of SPS. Hill has been responsible for SPS operations, as well as planning and developing future resources for the region, since July 2009. He was formerly regional vice president of customer and community relations at PSCo.

“Utilities today face incredible challenges in the planning, generation and delivery of energy,” said Ben Fowke, president and chief operating officer of Xcel Energy. “David’s extensive experience in many different aspects of the company’s operations qualifies him well to manage our operations in Colorado. He is an outstanding leader in our company and he will do an excellent job in his new role.”

Fowke also praised Taylor’s contributions to Xcel Energy, including his leadership of the supply chain and asset management areas, as well as his leadership of the PSCo operating company for the past two years.  “Tim has worked diligently to improve reliability and customer service and increase our community involvement,” he said. “We are grateful for his leadership of our company in Denver and the state.”
