Why do our products and services differ based on state? Because our business is regulated by state. We have regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. The different regulatory body for each state we serve determines what products and services we deliver in that state.

Will I be required to pass any kind of test?
A few positions require you to pass an aptitude test in order to be considered for an interview. If the position you apply for includes a testing requirement, you will receive information on the time and location of the test. Within a few days after taking the test, you will receive a letter that notifies you whether you passed or failed. Only those individuals who pass the test will continue to be considered.
All employment offers from Xcel Energy are contingent upon successful completion of a drug test and security background check.
When can I expect to hear from you?
Once you have completed your application for a position, you will be notified within 24 hours that we have received your information. If we have further questions about your qualifications, we will contact you directly. Due to the large volume of resumes we receive for employment openings, there may be a delay before we contact you. Typically, we will contact you within a few weeks after we receive your resume.
What can I expect once I submit my application?
After you submit your application, a message will appear stating your application has been received by Recruitment and Selection. Your resume is then stored with all other applications for that position and forwarded to the hiring leader once the posting period expires.
Does Xcel Energy offer internships?
We post available internships at selected schools in their career centers and/or on the school’s career center website. We work directly with strategically selected colleges and universities to fill internships. We also visit college campuses in the spring and fall to recruit for internships and full-time positions. We participate in career fairs and on-campus interviews. To apply for an internship, check with the career center at your school. Follow the instructions on the posting on how to apply, or sign up for an on-campus interview.
Does Xcel Energy offer apprenticeships?
We offer many apprenticeship programs, including (but not limited to) plant attendant, lineman, rigger and electrician. Occasionally these positions become available to candidates other than current Xcel Energy employees. If so, the positions will be posted in the “Search Current Openings” section of our website, and you would apply just as you would for any other position at Xcel Energy.
Can I schedule an informational interview?
At this time, we do not provide opportunities for informational interviews. However, check out the various Web pages within the Xcel Energy site for more information about our company, the people who work here and the variety of jobs.
Can I apply for more than one position at a time?
You may apply for as many positions as you like, as long as you meet the qualifications. To qualify for a position, you must meet or exceed the minimum requirements listed on the job posting.
